Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Starts Home Fire Safety Program

July 14, 2017 -Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has begun its annual Home Fire Safety public education program. 

Firefighters will be going door to door in residential neighborhoods this summer. They will be discussing important fire service concerns such as smoke and CO alarm requirements, outdoor burning rules and regulations, and home fire escape planning.

Road Closures Due to Repairs to Water Distribution System

July 13, 2017 - The following streets will be temporarily closed due to repairs to the water distribution system:

  • Pacific Avenue, from Spring Street to McIntosh Street, and the Pacific Avenue Bridge accessing the East End
  • McKenzie Street, from Rowand Street to Simpson Street
  • Simpson Street, from Atlantic Avenue to Pacific Avenue 

The closure will be in effect on Friday, July 14, starting at 12 am midnight until to approximately 8 am, or until work is complete.

2017 Road Work Season Continues

July 10, 2017 - The road work season in Thunder Bay is well underway. Projects to be undertaken in 2017 include road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sewer and watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work and streetlight renewal.

Paving to Reduce Balmoral Street to One Lane in Each Direction

July 10, 2017 - On Tuesday, July 11, a section of Balmoral Street between Alloy Drive and Hewitson Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction, due to mill and re-paving of lanes.

The mill and re-paving of lanes will improve the driving surface of this section of the road. The road work will take place in two stages.

Waste Collection Delays Continue

July 7, 2017 - Garbage collection delays continue as a result of changes in waste collection operations, including realignment of routes.

Residents whose garbage was missed are asked to keep their garbage out as collection will continue into the evening of Friday, July 7, as well as on Saturday, July 8.
