City Celebrates Youth and Arts in Our Community

May 1, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay kicked off National Youth Week with an official proclamation at City Hall today. Youth Week takes place annually from May 1 - 7, and celebrates the positive contributions that youth make to their communities, their achievements, and their volunteerism. The flag-raising event featured a drum circle with students from Matawa Learning Centre.

Garbage Collection Resumes Friday

April 28, 2017 - Garbage collection has resumed today, and all residents with Friday pickup on their Waste Collection Calendar can put their garbage at the curb as usual.
Residents can expect some delays throughout the day due to poor winter driving conditions. Set-out limits still apply.
For those whose garbage and recycling collection service was cancelled on Wednesday, April 26, place garbage at the curb after 4 pm today, or before 7 am tomorrow for pickup on Saturday, April 29.

Second Installment of 2017 Tax Bill Due

April 28, 2017 - The second installment of the 2017 tax bill is due on Wednesday, May 3. The interim tax billing is based on 50 per cent of your 2016 tax rate and 2016 assessment.
Taxpayers who have not received their bill are advised to contact the Corporate Services & Long Term Care Department, Revenue Division located on the main floor of City Hall, or call 625-2255 to request a copy.

Kashechewan First Nation Evacuees Take-in Thunder Bay

April 27, 2017 - On April 17, Thunder Bay began receiving Kashechewan First Nation evacuees due to the spring flood. Thunder Bay is currently hosting 65 guests from Kashechewan, and due to weather conditions, no further arrivals are anticipated in the coming days.

Update on Status of City Services Due to Freezing Rain

7 AM EST - April 27, 2017 - Significant ice build-up overnight due to a long-lasting period of freezing rain has temporarily suspended some City services and closed some City facilities.
"Our crews have been working very hard throughout the night to manage icy conditions on city roads and sidewalks," said Norm Gale, City Manager. "We continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada, and are urging residents to take extra care if they must go out."
