City providing snow clearing updates online

As the winter season continues and Thunder Bay experiences more winter weather events, the City’s Roads staff are dedicated to maintaining safe and reliable road conditions.

During snow events, the city's official Roads Maintenance Objectives policy guides snow removal efforts. The policy requires that:

  • Major roads are to be plowed when 5 cm or more of snow accumulates on the traveled portion of the road in a single storm event.

City Manager Norm Gale announces retirement

City Manager Norm Gale announced today that he is retiring at the end of June 2024, ending the longest tenure of any City Manager for the City of Thunder Bay.  Mr. Gale became City Manager eight years ago, on January 11, 2016, after acting in the role since October 2015.

With 10-15cm of snow forecasted to fall over the weekend, the City of Thunder Bay will be implementing annual calendar parking and priority route restrictions beginning Saturday January 6, 2024 at 9 am. Parking officers will be out enforcing the restrictions.

Rosslyn Road remains closed for infrastructure repairs

Rosslyn Road will be closed at 1996 Rosslyn Road to facilitate infrastructure repairs today.

Through traffic is impacted by this closure and will not be permitted between 20th Side Road and Neebing Avenue. There is no detour.

The road is anticipated to reopen by 6 pm.
