Calendar Parking Restrictions Waived

Based on discussions between Parking Authority and the Roads Division Manager regarding the weather forecast and current road conditions, the decision has been made to waive Calendar Parking restrictions for the remainder of the season, effective immediately.
Parking Authority may waive enforcement of Calendar Parking at any time after March 1, if forecasted weather and road conditions warrant.

Rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing Closed for the Season

Due to warm temperatures causing significant deterioration in ice conditions at the outdoor rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing, the rink has now been closed for the season.
“We had hoped to remain open for March Break, unfortunately, the warm weather has made ice conditions unsafe for skating” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces. “With continued high temperatures in the forecast, we won’t be able to reopen the rink.”

Memorandum of Settlement Reached with ATU Local 966

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that the City has reached a Memorandum of Settlement with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966.
The Union voted in favour of ratifying the deal last night. Next steps will see the deal go to City Council for ratification in early April. Until then, no details of the settlement will be released.

City unveils new fleet of electric pickup trucks

The City of Thunder Bay is adding electric vehicles to its fleet, with the first zero-emission pickup trucks being unveiled today.
Two Ford Lightning pickups will be added to the light vehicle fleet. The fully electric trucks are emission-free, and will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 25 tonnes of CO2 annually. The two pickups will be used by the Transit division, and will be used for road patrols, inspections, and supporting transit operations.
