Section of 20th Side Road to Close Sept. 23 and 24 for Railway Work

20th Side Road between Lacewood Drive and Trotter Road will be closed on Sept. 23 from 9 am to 3 pm, and Sept. 24 from 9 am to 12 pm, to facilitate railway work. There will be access for local traffic only.

A detour will be set up to direct motorists to use Trotter Road and Fairview Avenue.

Motorists are asked to obey posted signage and drive with caution.

National Coaches Week is being held across Canada from Sept. 19 to 27 to celebrate the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities. National Coaches Week serves as an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play. It is a great time to show appreciation for everything coaches do for athletes, their teams and the community. Section of May Street Closed Sept. 21 and 22

May Street southbound between Northern Avenue and Southern Avenue will be closed Monday, Sept. 21 and Tuesday, Sept. 22 to facilitate storm sewer construction.

May Street will remain open for one lane of northbound traffic through the construction limits. Only northbound turning traffic from Southern Avenue will be permitted. There will be local access to the Dairy Queen.

A detour will be posted directing motorists to use Northern Avenue, Vickers Street and Dease Street.

COVID-19: Complex to Open Sept. 23, Online Screening now Available

The Canada Games Complex plans to reopen its doors to the public on Wednesday, Sept. 23, pending a successful public health inspection. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, key changes to the facility will include:

  • Pre-screening prior to entering facility – Online form available at www.thunderbay.ca/rfst (paper copies available at entrance of facility)
  • Pre-booking use of pool, squash and fitness classes – Call 684-3311 as of Sept. 21
  • Limited number of users per room

City Requests Expressions of Interest for Baggage Building Arts Centre

The City of Thunder Bay has released a Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for opportunities related to the Baggage Building Arts Centre at Prince Arthur’s Landing. 

The City-owned building has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. During the closure, the long-term external operator has withdrawn the licence to operate the building. Responses to this EOI will help the City gauge interest in various options to operate the centre in 2021 and beyond.
