Thunder Bay Preparing to Host Kashechewan Evacuees

April 26, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay has been asked by the Province to serve as a host community as early as Saturday for residents of Kashechewan First Nation, where the Chief has declared a state of emergency due to potential for flooding.

"We have a long history of stepping up to help our neighbours from the north," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "We are looking forward to welcoming our guests and assisting them in their time of need."

City's Mobility Coordinator Awarded Walking College Fellowship

April 23, 2018 - The City's Mobility Coordinator, Adam Krupper, has been awarded a Walking College Fellowship as part of the 2018 Walkable Communities training program. The program, offered through America Walks, a US-based advocacy organization working to empower communities to create safe, accessible, and enjoyable places to walk, is a five-month training program designed to strengthen local efforts to make communities more walkable and livable.

New Climate Change Website Launched

April 23, 2018 - EarthCare Thunder Bay, in partnership with Lakehead University, has launched a new climate change website: ClimateChangeTBay.com. The launch of this website coincides with Earth Day, which was Sunday, April 22.

The new website is a resource hub that brings together carefully selected and locally relevant information regarding climate change. This centralized source connects information, actions, stories and people to inspire climate engagement here in the Thunder Bay region.

April 13, 2018 - The City of Thunder Bay, in partnership with Fort William First Nation and other partners including Thunder Bay Police, TBayTel and Thunder Bay Hydro, is submitting an application to the Smart Cities Challenge to be shortlisted for a $10 million prize.

The Challenge encourages communities of all sizes, including municipalities, regional governments and Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis and Inuit), to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents...
