Community Spirit on Display for Special Olympics Games Bid

July 21, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay has taken the final step in the bid process to secure the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games. Special Olympics Canada officials arrived in Thunder Bay on July 20 for a two-day site visit which included a tour of the proposed venues and a presentation by the local Bid Committee. It is anticipated the Games will be awarded during the week of August 14th to 18th, 2017. The finalists are Thunder Bay and Regina, Saskatchewan.

Free Screenings of HORIZON in Thunder Bay

July 21, 2017 - Thunder Bay will be one of seven cities hosting the unique cinematic dome screening of the 360° film HORIZON, produced by SESQUI, as part of the Canada 150 celebrations. 

The free screenings will take place from July 24 - July 28, in the Intercity Shopping Centre parking lot. The film will be shown on a first come, first served basis from 12 noon - 10 pm each day, except on Friday, July 28, when it will be shown from 10 am - 7:30 pm.

July 21, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that Nadjiwan will be featured at Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation, on July 26.  

The man behind the music of Nadjiwan, Marc Merilainen, was born in northern Manitoba and raised in the untamed beauty of Northwestern Ontario. Statement on Charges and Update on Council

July 21, 2017 - In the matter of Criminal Code charges laid against Mayor Keith Hobbs, the City of Thunder Bay will not be making a public comment as the matter is before the courts, other than to assure the public the charges are unrelated to municipal business or issues.
The Mayor has advised he will be absent from his public duties, in accordance with City policy, as he deals with this personal matter.

James and Churchill Intersection to Close for Sewer Construction

July 20, 2017 - The intersection at James Street and Churchill Drive will be closed to all traffic starting on Monday, July 24, for storm sewer construction and watermain replacement.

The work is expected to take up to two weeks to complete. There will be no disruption to water customers.
