COVID-19: Facilities Remain Closed as Province Extends Lockdown

Temporary City facility closures will continue following the extension of the province-wide lockdown until Saturday, Jan. 23. This includes all indoor and outdoor sports and recreational fitness activities.

Changes to Public Pre-budget Deputation Process

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are changes to the way the public will make pre-budget deputations to City Council this year. There will be four options, including by videoconference, by telephone, through the City Hall lobby kiosk, or by sending a letter to the City Clerk to be included in the public agenda for Council and the public’s information.

Proposed 2021 City Budget Released

The proposed 2021 Municipal Budget forms the starting point for City Council’s detailed review. This year’s budget provides an increase in the municipal tax levy after growth of $4 million or 2%. The impact of COVID-19 is excluded from the levy and is proposed to be funded by Federal-Provincial Safe Restart grant funding and reserve funds.

MECG Discusses Vaccine Rollout and Remaining Vigilant

The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. They discussed initial preparations in anticipation of a broadening of the vaccine rollout.

Extra Item of Garbage Allowed after New Year’s Day

Due to the increase of waste during the holiday season, the City will allow residents to put out a third item garbage with no tag on the first collection date after New Year’s Day.
