COVID-19: Emergency funding approved for non-profit groups

City Council voted unanimously to provide COVID-19 Pandemic emergency relief funding to four organizations currently funded through the Community, Youth & Cultural Funding Program.

Section of River Street to Close for Sewer and Water Work

A section of River Street, between Balsam Street and Elm Street, will be closed starting on Wednesday, April 29, to allow for new essential sewer and water infrastructure to be installed. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 1, at 8 pm.

New Plaque Installed to Commemorate National Day of Mourning

On the eve of the National Day of Mourning, Mayor Mauro tonight introduced a bronze memorial plaque installed to recognize employees who suffered loss of life, serious injury and illness arising from their duties.
The plaque is in front of City Hall opposite the flags that are lowered on the annual Day of Mourning.

In March 2019, and before the pandemic City Council approved a review to improve understanding of the programs and services currently provided by the City and provide information that will allow Council and administration to make informed strategic choices regarding those programs and services.

Mayor Bill Mauro has declared a state of emergency for the City of Thunder Bay, effective today at 2 pm and until further notice, in response to the threat of COVID-19.
This aligns with Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s Declaration of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and the evolving environment in which the municipality is delivering critical and essential services.
