Aboriginal Youth Trip to China Being Postponed

July 27, 2015 - Plans to send a contingent of Aboriginal youth to Jiaozou, China is being postponed until sufficient funds to sponsor the youth can be raised.

City Invites Online Comment for Waterfront Master Plan Update

July 28, 2015 - The Waterfront Master Plan Update that was presented to City Council yesterday as a first report is now available online for residents to provide their comments.

The proposed Waterfront Master Plan Update builds upon the success of the Waterfront revitalization initiatives implemented through the first phase of waterfront development at Prince Arthur's Landing. The components of the report include:

Public Art Takes to the Streets with Launch of Art Bus

July 24, 2015 - Today the City of Thunder Bay unveiled a City Transit bus that has been transformed into a local cultural experience, an animated, moving showcase of local art.

"The intent of the art bus is to integrate creativity and art into the daily, urban experience of residents and visitors to Thunder Bay," said Daniel Hansen, Public Art Committee Chair.

Section of Arthur Street to Close for Rail Crossing Rehabilitation

July 24, 2015 - Arthur Street from Waterloo Street to Kingsway will close to all through traffic on Monday, July 27 to allow for rehabilitation of the rail crossing and approaches. 

The closure is expected to last one week.

The construction schedule is subject to change, as various factors - such as weather - can have an impact on project timelines.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, and those travelling in the area are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage.

City to Seek Support from Province Regarding Assessments

July 21, 2015 – City Council agreed on Monday to implement, without further appeal, a decision of the Assessment Review Board (ARB) regarding a 54% reduction in the valuation of the Resolute mill from $72.2 million to $32.6 million for the 2009-2012 taxation years.
