City to Host Flooding Evacuees from Bearskin Lake First Nation

The City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive approximately 180 people from Bearskin Lake First Nation over the course of the next 48 hours as the community declared a state of emergency on Sunday due to an ice jam along the Severn River, causing water to rise rapidly close by.
Large amounts of ice and water are already covering up main roadways including those to the airport. Residents are being airlifted by helicopter to the local airport by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Local Delegation Fights for Bombardier at Meetings in Toronto

A delegation of business, government and labour representatives from Thunder Bay have just returned from Toronto following meetings with senior Provincial and City of Toronto representatives focused on discussing the many mutual benefits associated with Thunder Bay’s long-standing and important transportation relationship with Toronto.

In 2019, the City of Thunder Bay invested $30 million on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.

Brave Participants Take the Conquer the Tower Plunge

Conquer the Tower returned yesterday to the Canada Games Complex. Eighteen brave participants worked hard to raise funds in support of PRO Kids and the Thunder Bay Diving Club. The more money they raised, the higher the diving platform they jumped from.

City Pleased James Street Swing Bridge Set to Reopen

CN has completed repairs to the James Street Swing Bridge and it is scheduled to open to traffic this Saturday. This follows the closure of the bridge in October 2013 due to a fire and a lengthy legal battle with CN who was ultimately ordered by the courts to uphold its contractual obligation to repair and reopen the bridge to all vehicles under the 1906 Agreement.
