Outdoor Skating Rinks Reopen

The recent cold weather has allowed crews to restore the ice surfaces at the City’s outdoor rinks. Rinks will reopen on Friday, Feb. 17.

“As soon as the temperatures dropped our crews started working to repair the ice surfaces,” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager of Parks & Open Spaces. “We are happy that the weather cooperated and that we were able to get the rinks open again for people to enjoy on the long weekend.”

Celebrate Family Day at SnowDay on the Waterfront

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce SnowDay on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation, this Family Day – Monday, Feb. 20. SnowDay on the Waterfront is an opportunity to spend time outdoors and enjoy various winter activities.

Future Housing and Land Needs Study now available for comment

The City of Thunder Bay, along with consultants HTFC Planning and Design want to get the public’s input on how the future of housing could look in the city.

As part of the province’s Streamline Development Approvals Fund, the City is undertaking the Thunder Bay Housing Land Needs Study and Strategy. It will look at how land within the urban areas of the city can best be used for new housing development.

As a result of the upcoming Family Day public holiday, the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility (the Landfill) as well as the Front Street and Mountdale Avenue recycling depots will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20.

There are no curbside collection date changes.

Regular hours resume on Feb. 21.

Outdoor skating rinks temporarily closed

As a result of the recent warm weather, ice conditions at the City’s outdoor rinks have significantly deteriorated and as such all outdoor rinks (with the exception of the rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing) have been temporarily closed.

Lights will be turned off, change rooms will be closed and residents are asked to stay off the ice surfaces.
