Twice a day in Thunder Bay, School Crossing Guards help over 1100 students get to and from school by ensuring safe crossing of busy city streets.

Nominations Open for 2022 Mayor’s Community Safety Awards

Nominations are officially open for the 12th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards, which recognize Thunder Bay citizens and groups who are working to make our city safer and more equitable.

The awards are hosted by the City and Community Safety & Well-Being Thunder Bay. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Oct. 7, at 4:30 pm.

The awards will be presented during a special ceremony during the Nov. 14, 2022 meeting of Thunder Bay City Council.

Section of Strathcona Avenue to Close for Asphalt Resurfacing

A section of Strathcona Avenue, between Hodder Avenue and Spruce River Road in order to complete asphalt paving near Bare Point Road starting on Monday, Sept. 19. Local traffic will be permitted.

Crews expect to be completed the work by the end of the day Monday, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.

Drivers are asked to obey the construction signs, drive with caution, and use alternate routes around the construction zone.
