Section of James Street North to be Closed Aug. 9

A section of James Street North between Conestoga Street and Edward Street North will be closed tomorrow, Aug. 9, at 5 am to facilitate a water service repair. The work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area of the street closure.

Reimagine Victoriaville at Open Houses

The City of Thunder Bay invites the public to view and comment on two potential designs for the area of Victoria Avenue and Syndicate Avenue, at open houses next week.
The slated demolition of Victoriaville Mall in 2024 presents an opportunity to redesign the surrounding streets and develop public programming. The redesign is called Reimagine Victoriaville: Phase Two, and follows up on work from Phase One, which recommended demolishing the structure.

Balmoral Street & Central Avenue Intersection to Close

To allow for work on water infrastructure and traffic lights, the intersection of Balmoral Street and Central Avenue will be closed to all traffic on Wednesday, Aug. 3 and Thursday, Aug. 4.
Traffic on Balmoral Street will be diverted to Central Avenue via Tungsten Street during the closure.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the area of the construction.

Three-Hour Time Limit at Waterfront Market Square Parking Lot

The demand for parking spaces at the Market Square parking lot at Prince Arthur’s Landing has led to a change in how long drivers can park their vehicles.
The free parking lot, adjacent to the CN Station and splash pad previously had no time limits. A three-hour limit will be put in place, effective immediately, to provide better access to Thunder Bay’s waterfront.

Northwood Playfield Splash Pad Officially Opens

The City of Thunder Bay’s newest splash pad officially opened today at a grand opening ceremony.
The new facility is located at the Northwood Playfield, on James Street, and is the City’s fifth splash pad and fourth neighbourhood splash pad.
The theme of this splash pad is “Water is Life”. The theme was suggested through stakeholder meetings held in 2019. Further consultation occurred with the City of Thunder Bay’s Anishinaabe Elders Council, who helped to shape the design of this facility.
