Accessibility Advisory Committee to Host Public Open House on June 1

As part of the celebration of National AccessAbility Week, the City of Thunder Bay’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) will host its annual open house from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in McGillivray Square, City Hall. A Flag Raising ceremony will kick off the event. AAC members and stakeholder groups will be present to provide information about the services they offer. Warmer weather marks the beginning of building season in Thunder Bay. The City’s Building Services Division reminds homeowners to check if they need a Building Permit for any project they want to take on this year.
Some common projects that require a Building Permit are:
- Building a new structure (home, garage, shed, etc.)
- Repairing, renovating, expanding or demolishing a building
- Finishing a basement
- Installing a swimming pool fence

Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Takes Place May 31 - June 10

Curbside collection of leaf and yard waste is taking place between May 31 – June 10, on your regular recycling day.
Only Kraft (paper bags) will be accepted for leaf and yard waste. Bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Each filled bag must weigh less than 18 kg (40 lbs.).
Branches and brush may also be left at the curb for collection. Bundles of branches must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and no more than 61 cm or (24 inches) in diameter, tied using string or rope.

Section of Rosslyn Road to Close Thursday to Through Traffic

Rosslyn Road, between 20th Side Road and Neebing Avenue, will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, May 26, for underground work on the water distribution system.
The work is taking place East of Baker Avenue. Those residing East of Baker Avenue are to use Neebing Avenue. Those residing West of Baker Avenue are to use 20th Side Road.
Crews expect to be completed the work by the end of the day Thursday, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.

Thunder Bay Hosting Evacuees from Grassy Narrows

On Monday, the City of Thunder Bay began to receive evacuees from Grassy Narrows. Due to flooding in the First Nation community, the Province issued a request to Thunder Bay to be a host community.
Thunder Bay will initially host approximately 100 guests from Grassy Narrows. Resources are in place to support the well-being of all.
