National Youth Week Returns May 1 - 7

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to once again announce the return of National Youth Week from May 1 to May 7. Youth Week features FREE events and programming targeted towards all youth ages 10 to 24.

Delay in Opening City Bike Lanes

The opening of the City of Thunder Bay’s bike lanes has been delayed this year due to snow and weather conditions. The City will continue to monitor weather conditions and will provide an update as to when the bike lanes can officially open.
Bike lanes traditionally open each year on May 1, as the sweeping in each zone is normally completed. Once the sweeping has occurred and bike lanes can officially open, on-street parking restrictions will be enforced for designated bike lanes.

City Expanding its Municipal Recycling Program Beginning May 1

Effective May 1, the City of Thunder Bay will be expanding its recycling program to allow residents to recycle all #1 through #7 coded plastic containers.
The recycling program expansion will allow residents to recycle plastic containers such as yogurt, margarine and sour cream containers. Prior to the expansion, residents were only allowed to recycle #1 and #2 coded plastic containers.

City Launches Downtown Improvement Grant Program for 2022

Two of the goals of the relaunched Downtown Improvement Grant Program are making Thunder Bay’s cores more inviting and vibrant.

Thunder Bay Wins Bid for 2024 Ontario Winter Games

The Government of Ontario has announced that the 2024 Ontario Winter Games have been awarded to Thunder Bay for the first time since 1974. City of Thunder Bay officials and 2024 Bid Committee members shared more information about the bid and upcoming plans at a media event today.
