Command Team Protecting Most Vulnerable in Community

To find ways to safely serve the vulnerable population with the help that they need during the pandemic, the Isolation Shelter Command Team was established in April 2020 to reduce the spread of COVID-19 among individuals experiencing homelessness and precarious housing, and to mitigate risks associated with outbreaks in emergency shelters and within the community.

The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. The group continues to meet weekly to provide a coordinated approach to the community’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
The group discussed making sure that emergency and essential city services are protected and continue to be delivered in the coming days and weeks, even as COVID-19-related staffing shortages will have an impact to some services and programs.

The proposed 2022 Municipal Budget forms the starting point for City Council’s detailed review. This year’s budget provides an increase in the municipal tax levy after growth of $4.7 million or 2.29%. As part of the COVID-19 Severe Weather Response Plan, the City is issuing an alert to the community because of a snowfall warning with total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm, and easterly winds gusting to 50 km/h resulting in local blowing snow.
