Thunder Bay Road Work Season Continues into Fall

The City of Thunder Bay is investing $18 million in 2020 on road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sanitary and storm sewers, watermain repair/replacement, bridge and culvert work, and streetlight renewal.

Road work can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers. All residents are reminded to reduce their speed, be alert, watch for workers and drive with extra care in construction zones.

Thunder Bay CEDC continues to support small business

The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) is pleased to announce another group of successful entrepreneurs who participated in the Starter Company Plus program. The third round of the 2020 program saw a total of ten small business owners go through the six week program. Over the past year there has been a total of thirty two local entrepreneurs to successfully complete the program and receive the $5000 grant, totaling $160,000, the highest in the program’s history.

Changes to City Council and Ward Meeting In-Person Limits

On Sept. 19, the province amended Ontario Regulation 364/20 to reduce the number of people allowed to gather at indoor organized public events from 50 people to 10 people.

“City Council and Ward meetings are not exempt from these limits, and must adhere to the 10 person limit,” said Krista Power, City Clerk. “In-person ward meetings that were recently scheduled for the Northwood and McKellar Wards have been cancelled.”

Section of 20th Side Road to Close Sept. 23 and 24 for Railway Work

20th Side Road between Lacewood Drive and Trotter Road will be closed on Sept. 23 from 9 am to 3 pm, and Sept. 24 from 9 am to 12 pm, to facilitate railway work. There will be access for local traffic only.

A detour will be set up to direct motorists to use Trotter Road and Fairview Avenue.

Motorists are asked to obey posted signage and drive with caution.
