Applications open for Clean, Green & Beautiful project funding

The City of Thunder Bay’s Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee is encouraging community organizations to apply for funding for emerging projects that beautify the City and enhance civic pride. The deadline is June 23.

Project ideas should enhance the function, look and feel of where we live, work and play through public art, beautification, heritage and environmental greening initiatives.

Funding is available for smaller scale projects (eligible for Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee contributions...

As large banners were unveiled at City Hall today, officials announced that Hydro One will be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2024 Ontario Winter Games. As Ontario’s largest multi-sport event, the Games will take place from February 16 - 26, 2024, at sporting venues across Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay was awarded the 2024 Ontario Winter Games by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport through a competitive bid process.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Issues Fire Ban 2023`

Effective immediately, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has issued a fire ban on all outdoor open air burning within the City of Thunder Bay.

The ban on outdoor burning is consistent with the recent Ontario Ministry if Natural Resources and Forests Restricted Fire Zone declaration.

Residents are reminded that all outdoor burning permits are suspended when a fire ban is in effect.

Section of Court Street Closed

The section of Court Street between Lincoln Street and Red River Road will be closed beginning on June 1, as the North Core Street Scape construction works begins.

Businesses in the area remain open and alternative parking options are available nearby on Park Avenue, Red River Road and in the parkade.

The work and accompanying road closure is expected to last throughout the summer construction season.

Drivers are asked to use caution in the area and obey all posted signage.

The City of Thunder Bay’s annual Kite Festival is back for its 40th Anniversary at Marina Park, this year featuring air shows by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. Presented by Ontario Power Generation, the annual celebration takes place from 11 am to 3 pm on June 3 and 4.
