Thunder Bay Joins Province in Emergency Preparedness Week 2023

This year, Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week takes place May 7- 13, with the theme of “Being Safe, Practiced and Prepared”.

“Nothing is more important than being safe, prepared and practiced,” said Dennis Brescacin, Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Thunder Bay. “Everyone can play a vital role in EP Week.”

Shuniah and Thunder Bay break ground on new EMS base

Construction on a new EMS base in Shuniah, Ont., is now officially underway, after a groundbreaking ceremony this morning.

The new facility at 1801 Lakeshore Drive will be used by Superior North EMS (SNEMS), and feature two drive-through ambulance bays and a new area for paramedics to rest while on duty. It will replace a trailer and parking bay at Shuniah Fire Hall #1, which does not meet regulatory and functional needs for EMS crews.

Thunder Bay Hosting Evacuees from Kashechewan First Nation

Today, the City of Thunder Bay will begin to receive evacuees from Kashechewan. Due to flooding in the First Nation community, the Province issued a request to Thunder Bay to be a host community. Thunder Bay will host approximately 300 guests from Kashechewan.

Open House to show future of Victoria and Syndicate Avenues

After months of preliminary design work and public consultation, the preferred design for Victoria and Syndicate Avenues will be on display at a public open house.

On May 3, from 3 to 7 pm, consultants with KGS Group, Scatliff+Miller+Murray and City of Thunder Bay representatives will be at Centre Court in Victoriaville to show what the neighbourhood could look like in just a couple of years.
