Update on City Services Following New Ontario Regulations

Following the Government of Ontario’s announcement on Friday of an extension to the Stay-at-home order and further province-wide restrictions, some city services will be affected including marinas and some outdoor recreational amenities.

The Government of Ontario has extended the Stay-at-Home Order and the State of the Emergency to May 5, and announced further province-wide restrictions effective 12:01 am today, Saturday, April 17. The order under the Reopening Ontario Act, which would include the rules for shutdown zones, has been extended to May 20.

City Launches Renewed Online Presence for Indigenous Relations & Inclusion

The City is pleased to launch a renewed area of the City of Thunder Bay website focused on Indigenous relations and inclusion to better serve residents and visitors. The web area embodies the City’s vision: Maamawe, All Together, while furthering the goals of the new Indigenous Relations & Inclusion (IRI) Strategy, which was recently approved by City Council on Nov. 23, 2020.

Water Street North Reduced to Two Lanes on Thursday

As a result of a scheduled hydrant repair, Water Street North between Bay Street and Cumberland Street will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes (one northbound and one southbound), beginning on Thursday, April 15, at 8 am. Slower traffic can be expected during the repair.

Motorists are asked to drive with caution in the repair area.

Council Approves Extending Patio Program for 2021

Many Thunder Bay’s businesses continue to be impacted by the pandemic and it is anticipated that local retailers and restaurants may not be able to operate at full capacity again this spring.
