City Bike Lanes Open for the Season on May 1

The City of Thunder Bay’s bike lanes are scheduled to begin reopening on May 1, as each zone’s street sweeping concludes. Bike lanes will remain open until Nov. 15, weather permitting. Restrictions to on-street parking in designated bike lanes will be enforced during this period - check signage.
Motorists are asked to be aware of cyclists, respect bike lanes and share the road.

City Announces National Youth Week’s Virtual Programming

The City of Thunder Bay is excited to host virtual programming once again this year in celebration of National Youth Week from May 1 to May 7. The Recreation and Culture Division, along with other community partners, has arranged different virtual events for youth ages 12–24 to participate in throughout the week with a focus on well-being. People interested in camping at Trowbridge Falls and Chippewa Park this summer will need to act quickly as reservations for both campgrounds are on the rise. Compared with numbers from 2019, campsite reservations at Chippewa Park nearly doubled, and at Trowbridge Falls, they quadrupled.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding residents of the potential risks of fractal wood burning after they responded to a medical call on the weekend for an electrocution death caused by the process.
Fractal wood burning, also called Lichtenberg, is an artistic process that burns lightning or tree-like figures into wood using high-electricity voltage generators or similar components. The wood is soaked with a chemical solution.
