National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations for Youth

The City of Thunder Bay’s Recreation and Culture Division, along with community partners, has arranged events for youth ages 12–24 to participate in celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday, June 21.

Victoria Avenue between Waterloo Street and Franklin Street will be closed Wednesday, June 16, to accommodate line painting. The work is expected to take one day to complete.
Motorists are asked to use Cameron Street or Arthur Street to detour around the work zone, and to drive with caution in the area.

Some City Outdoor Activities to Resume Friday

The Ontario government has given provincial orders to move into Step 1 of the ‘Roadmap to Reopening’ plan on June 11 at 12:01 am, with an initial focus on resuming outdoor activities with smaller crowds where the risk of transmission is lower.

Set-up for North Core Streetscape Patios to Begin Friday

Starting on Friday, June 11, the City of Thunder Bay in partnership with the Waterfront District BIA, will pilot an extended pedestrian and patio-centric plan in the City’s North Core as part of the ‘Reimagining the North Core Streetscapes’ study.
City staff will be onsite to assist businesses with setting up patios throughout the North Core. Based on public feedback, additional traffic calming installations and crosswalk expansions will also be implemented. Motorists are asked to drive with caution...

Two Superior North EMS (SNEMS) paramedics are being credited with stopping and preventing serious injuries to a person who was being assaulted.
At about 5 pm on Tuesday afternoon a paramedic crew was pulling up to the Westfort Paramedic Station when they observed what they appeared to be a possible robbery and assault in progress of an older gentlemen by three younger males.
