Week of Canada Day Waste Collection Date Changes

The upcoming Canada Day holiday will result in changes to waste and recycling collection in Area 1 and Area 2.
There is no collection on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1. Garbage and recycling collection moves back one day earlier during the week of June 29th for residents in Area 1 and Area 2. Collection in Area 3 and Area 4 remains unchanged.

S&P Reaffirms City’s Credit Rating for Fourth Straight Year

Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Global Ratings has reaffirmed the City of Thunder Bay’s credit rating of AA, with a stable outlook.
Over the next two years, the City is expected to maintain overall sound financial results including balanced budgetary performance, low municipal debt burden, and a robust liquidity position. These considerations led S&P Global to reaffirm the rating for a fourth consecutive year.

City Expanding Recycling Program Effective July 1

Effective July 1, the City of Thunder Bay will expand its recycling program to allow residents to recycle all #1 and #2 plastic containers.
The recycling program expansion will allow residents to recycle additional plastic items such as clamshell containers often used for salads, vegetables, berries, or pastries. Prior to the expansion, residents were only allowed to recycle #1 and #2 plastic bottles.

The Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) continues to move forward with the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is continuing remotely with great success. The Phase 2 Summer 2020 Operations report was presented and approved by City Council last night with a number of services and facilities reopening.

Algoma Child Care Centre has been designated as a priority site for reopening municipal child care as early as June 29. Municipal child care staff will be working in partnership with the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board, the Ministry and families to support the transition from Algoma as an emergency child care site.
