At 16:33 on Saturday April 20, 2019. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue received a call for a High Angle Rope Rescue on Mt. McKay. Two hikers had become stranded. 4 pumpers, a Technical rescue Technician, Technical rescue trailer, and a Kubota all-terrain vehicle, plus the Platoon Chief Attended the scene. Structural Fire on Banning Street

On the afternoon of Monday, April 15, in response to a 911 call, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a structural fire at a residence in the 200 block of Banning Street.
Soon after leaving the fire station, the responding District-Chief observed heavy black smoke in the area, and called for a second alarm. Transportation Master Plan Nears Completion

The Thunder Bay Transportation Master Plan (TMP) is nearing completion. The final draft is now available for public review and comment.
The TMP is a strategic planning document that will guide the City’s transportation infrastructure investment for the next 20 years and beyond. It aims to enhance safety and accessibility, promote sustainability, reduce environmental impacts and support economic development.

Waste Collection Changes for Easter Holiday

Curbside waste collection dates, city-wide, will change next week due to Good Friday.
Garbage and recycling collection will move one day earlier next week, starting on April 15, for all residents. There will be no collection on Good Friday.

Multiple Fires Caused by Candles Last Week

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to multiple structural fires last week and after investigating, determined that two were caused by candles.
“We’re very concerned about the latest string of fires caused by candles,” said Fire Chief John Hay. “These fires were totally preventable. Instead of candles, we recommend choosing CSA-approved battery-powered candles.”
This incident prompted Thunder Bay Fire Rescue to remind residents that residents need to do everything they can to prevent fires from starting.
