Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Presents School Fire Safety Awards

June 16, 2015 - The second annual School Fire Safety Awards were presented to two local schools this week. The awards recognize the school and respective Principal who have shown leadership and commitment to promoting and practicing Fire Safety to a high degree and Fire Code compliance.
The Awards were presented to:
- Principal Letizia Tremonti of St. Martin Elementary School, and
- Principal Coral Charlton of Westgate High School

Mayor Hobbs Appointed to MPAC Board of Directors

June 15, 2015 - Mayor Keith Hobbs has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) for a three-year term.
The appointment was recently made by Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa. Mayor Hobbs will serve as one of five municipal representatives on the 11-member Board of Directors.

Centennial Park Parking Lot Reopening on Saturday

June 12, 2015 - The Centennial Park parking lot will reopen to the public as of Saturday, June 13.
The lot had been closed since earlier this week to allow for the installation of a new water main, which is now in service.
The parking lot will be closed for one more day during the week of June 22 - 26, in order to allow for insulation of the water line which services the park service building at the entrance to the parking lot.
The exact date has not been determined, as it will depend on the number...
Child Care Survey to Capture Community's Child Care Needs

June 12, 2015 - Local families with children up to 12-years-old who are not currently attending a City of Thunder Bay Child Care Centre are invited to give input into a review of the City's child care operations through a Child Care Survey.

Owner Ticketed For Smoke and CO Alarm Violations

June 12, 2015 - A Thorndale Crescent property owner has been ticketed for failing to install a smoke alarm where required and failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm where required. Each ticket carries a fine of $360.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a structural fire at the residence on May 17. The fire was quickly brought under control and the resulting investigation led to the tickets being issued.
