Waste Collection Date Changes for Remembrance Day

The upcoming Remembrance Day holiday will result in date changes for waste and recycling collection during the week of November 8. City residents with regular waste and recycling collection on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will receive collection one day earlier. Friday collection remains unchanged.

For over 21 years, PRO Kids has served children and youth in Thunder Bay when their families cannot afford the cost to register in community activities. Over that time, PRO Kids has made over 25,000 placements of children into local programs that include sports, arts and music. PRO Kids will be continuing its efforts with the launch of the Press Play Campaign—a fundraising initiative to support local families in the time of COVID-19.

Playground Construction Underway at Centennial Park

The construction of the new playground at Centennial Park has officially begun. Access to the farm area and the trails adjacent to it is restricted until the construction is complete. Site work is expected to be complete by the end of November, and the installation of the playground structures will take place in the spring.

Update on Edward Street Construction

The construction on Edward Street, between Ward Avenue and William Street, is nearing completion and will fully reopen soon. The original planned date for reopening Edward Street between William Street and University Drive was scheduled for today. However, this has been pushed back in order to complete final street lighting work.

Northbound Lane Closure on Section of Simpson Street

The Northbound lane on Simpson Street, between Bethune Street and Ogden Street, will close to through traffic on Monday, Nov. 1, for sewer work. A detour route will be available at Hardisty Street. Southbound traffic should not be impacted.
The present work is estimated to take two days to complete, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.
