City Participating in Greener Lignin-Based Asphalt Trial

The City of Thunder Bay will be the first location in Ontario to trial a new lignin-based asphalt. Lignin is a by-product of the forestry industry and will result in a greener, more environmentally-friendly alternative to the asphalt currently used.

FPInnovations is spearheading the trial. The first trial of the lignin-based asphalt in Canada took place this summer in Sturgeon County, Alberta, and was deemed successful.

17th Annual Mayor’s Mulligan Raises Funds & Awareness for PRO Kids

The 17th Annual Mayor’s Mulligan Golf Tournament presented by Enbridge Gas, announced today that $21,540 was raised during this year’s event in support of PRO Kids. This bringing the total raised in the past 17 years to $214,540 for charitable organizations. The City of Thunder Bay’s Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee, in partnership with Lakehead Social Planning Council, has launched an awareness campaign to highlight ways those who experience or witness racism can report it and access supports.

Section of Island Drive to Close for One Week

Island Drive, between Atlantic Avenue and Main Street, will close to all through traffic for approximately one week, beginning on Monday, Sept. 13. This closure allows for repairs to the two rail crossings on this stretch of road. 

Motorists are asked to obey the construction signs, drive with caution, and use alternate routes around the construction zone.

Final paving of Island Drive between the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway and Main Street will be completed in the following weeks.

Treasure Exchange Days Returns September 11 and 12

The City's popular Treasure Exchange Days event returns this weekend. Residents who have items in good condition that they wish to give away may leave them onthe curb anytime after 5pm on Friday, Sept. 10, labelled as "free." Residents are invited to tour their neighbourhoods on Sept. 11 and 12 to find treasures.

All items not taken must be removed from the curb by 7 pm on Sunday, Sept 12. Solid Waste & Recycling Services will not collect these items.
