Section of John Street Road to Close for Three Weeks

John Street Road between Woodcrest Road and Belrose Road will be closed to through traffic starting on Wednesday, Sept. 8, for landfill forcemain work. The posted detour route will be Woodcrest Road, Goods Road, and Belrose Road.

The present work is estimated to take three weeks, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.

Northwood Splash Pad to Operate for Labour Day Weekend

Thunder Bay’s newest splash pad at the Northwood Playfield on James Street will be available for children to enjoy over the Labour Day weekend.

Partners Work Together to Address Challenges of Homelessness

The City of Thunder Bay has been working with community partners to address homelessness that exist within the community. Solution-focused efforts span the entire city, however, in recent days a derelict private property by Country Fair plaza has been the focus of attention. A number of individuals have sought shelter at this site which has created health and safety concerns given the disrepair of the facility and the lack of suitable sanitary facilities.

Municipal Emergency Control Group Cautions Community on Delta Variant

The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. With the fall season driving increased indoor gatherings and a fourth wave of the pandemic beginning across Ontario, the group focused discussions on the highly transmittable delta variant.

Closing Dates for Outdoor Pools, Splash Pads

With the hot weather coming to an end, closures of the City’s outdoor pools and splash pads are taking place. On Sunday, Sept. 5, outdoor pools will close at the end of opening hours, and Prince Arthur’s Landing splash pad will also close Sept. 5 at 8 pm. Splash pads at County Park, Franklin Street Park and North End Park will close for the season on Monday, Sept. 6 (Labour Day) at 8 pm.

City staff will perform maintenance on these amenities over the off-season to ready them for the summer of 2022.
