Each year in October, to coincide with Women’s History Month, new inductees are added to the City of Thunder Bay Women’s History Month online exhibit. The exhibit recognizes and celebrates women of all ages who played important roles in the history and development of our city.

Nominations Open for Mayor’s Community Safety Awards

Community Safety & Well-Being Thunder Bay (formerly Crime Prevention Thunder Bay) is calling for nominations for the 11th Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards that recognize Thunder Bay residents and groups who are working to make the city safer and more inclusive.

Nominations officially open today, and the deadline for submissions is November 5 at 4:30 pm.

The awards will be presented during a special ceremony that will take place during the Dec. 6 meeting of Thunder Bay City Council.

City Prepares as Province Lifts Capacity Limits for Oct. 25

Effective Monday Oct. 25 at 12:01 am, the Ontario government has given orders to lift capacity limits in the vast majority of settings where proof of vaccination is required, including all city indoor areas of sports and recreational facilities.

This is in response to continued improvements to key health indicators province-wide, including ongoing stability in the province’s hospitals.

Water Service Disruption for Watermain Work on Highway 61

Sewer and water work will take place on Highway 61 starting on Sunday, Oct. 24, at approximately 11 pm. This work will result in the shutdown of the water main feeding all services north of Highway 61, west of Mount Forest Boulevard, as well as all services west of 20th Side Road. Work is expected to be complete by Monday, Oct. 25, at 6 am. 

The scheduled work will not require road closures or re-direction of traffic.

Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Runs Oct. 26 – Nov. 5

The City of Thunder Bay’s fall curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 5, on residents’ regular recycling days. 

Homeowners must use Kraft (paper) bags for leaf and yard waste. Kraft bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Regular weight limits of 18 kg/40 lbs. per bag apply.

Branches and brush may also be left at the curb for collection in bundles. Bundles must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and no more than 61 cm (24 inches)...
