Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Runs Oct. 26 – Nov. 5

The City of Thunder Bay’s fall curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 5, on residents’ regular recycling days.
Homeowners must use Kraft (paper) bags for leaf and yard waste. Kraft bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Regular weight limits of 18 kg/40 lbs. per bag apply.
Branches and brush may also be left at the curb for collection in bundles. Bundles must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and no more than 61 cm (24 inches)...
Section of John Street Road to Close for Asphalt Resurfacing

John Street Road between Valley Street and Sunflower Street, will be closed to through traffic starting on Tuesday, Oct. 12, for asphalt resurfacing. The posted detour route will be Valley Street, Hutton Park Drive and Sunflower Street.
The present work is estimated to take two weeks, but weather conditions and other factors may impact project timelines.
Those travelling near the construction zone are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signage and detours.

Single-Lane Closure Along Fort William Road

Sewer and water work is taking place on Fort William Road. This has resulted in a southbound lane closure on Fort William Road between Central Avenue and Sixth Avenue, effective immediately. Work is expected to be completed late this evening.
Motorists are asked to obey the construction signs, drive with caution, and use alternate routes around the construction zone.

Share Your Views on Back Yard Fires

The City of Thunder Bay is considering changes to its recreational burning permit in an effort to address concerns that have been raised from some residents. An online survey is available now until Oct. 18 on the city website for the public to share their views.
Administration will be reporting back to City Council on Nov. 15 with options and potential solutions for outdoor, backyard burning.
Currently, permits are $30/year for open-air burning, and allow fires between 5 pm and 12 am. This was introduced...
