A lyric sheet for songs written for the amalgamation of Fort William and Port Arthur.

A typed sheet of lyrics to the Amalgamation song

The text reads:

Songs To Amalgamate By

New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1969.
To celebrate the amalgamation of Fort William, Port Arthur, Neebing and McIntyre.

Auld Acquaintances
(Tune: Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forget)

Should old Fort William be forgot,
Or dear Port Arthur, too?
Ah, no, they are our heritage,
And to that thought stay true.
And now we both amalgamate,
One hundred thousand strong.
With such an show of enthusiasm,
It cannot be so wrong!

We can all claim the giant now,
And rocky Mount McKay,
The Kam, and Hillcrest, and the Park
We’ll call it Thunder Bay!
Let’s drink to that, and wish it well,
And never rue the day,
In seventy we joined our hands.
Hooray for Thunder Bay!
- S. Brougham

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Thunder Bay,
Happy birthday to you.

Thunder Bay
(Tune: Old Macdonald had a Farm)

Old Fort William has changed its name--
Or shall on New Year’s Day.
From then on out it shall be known
As the City of Thunder Bay.

With Wawa here, and a Green Bay there,
Here a Wa, there a Soo, everywhere a bay bay.
Now Fort William shall be known
As the City of Thunder Bay.

Port Arthur too shall now become,
For so the plebiscites say --
(Whether Neebing and McIntyre like it or not)
A part of Thunder Bay.

With a Wawa here, and a Green Bay there,
Here a Wa, there a Soo, everywhere a bay bay,
Now Port Arthur shall be known
As the City of Thunder Bay.

The Sleeping Giant still looks up
From his bed on Thunder Cape.
He sees two cities lying there
Looking out across the lake.

With a Wawa here, and a Green Bay there,
Here a Wa, there a Soo, everywhere a bay bay,
These Lakehead cities now are known
As the City of Thunder Bay.

Both Air Canada and the C.P.R.
On their maps now both will say
One city you have become --
The City of Thunder Bay.

With a Wawa here, and a Green Bay there,
Here a Wa, there a Soo, everywhere a bay bay,
These Lakehead cities now are known
As the City of Thunder Bay
