Keeping Thunder Bay Clean, Green & Beautiful is up to all of us. We invite you to get involved! Clean, green & beautiful cities attract visitors, workers and investment while allowing us to live, work and play in well-maintained, safe and pleasant surroundings.

Making change in our community

The Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee works to enhance our city by fostering public art, beautification, heritage and environmental greening initiatives.

Apply Now for and Emerging Projects Grant!

The Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee is offering grants to help bring public spaces to life and spark civic pride. Local organizations, businesses, and City groups can apply for funding to support projects that make Thunder Bay more vibrant and welcoming through public art, beautification, heritage, and environmental greening.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available, with the possibility of more funding for projects that offer strong community benefits and fit within the available budget.

Projects must not include studies, research, plans, or administrative fees.

To be considered, projects should:

  • Make a clear and visible difference in the community

  • Have a lasting impact—or a big impact in a short time
  • Support the goals of the Clean, Green & Beautiful Committee

  • Acknowledge the Committee’s support in some way

If you’ve got an idea that will help make Thunder Bay a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful place to live, we want to hear from you!

The deadline to apply is May 4.

* If you receive a grant, you’ll need to fill out a short Final Report Form. This includes a 250-word article that describes your project, the impact it had on the community, who was involved, and a quote from someone connected to the project.

Clean, Green & Beautiful Awards

The Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee has partnered with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce to present the Clean, Green and Beautiful Award. The Award is presented to a business or organization enriching the life of the community through a combination of public art, beautification, heritage, greening and environmental preservation. Look for the Clean, Green & Beautiful Award presented as part of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce's Business Excellence Awards.

Urban beautification

Through a partnership between the Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee and the City’s Planning Division, an Urban Design study was completed in 2012. The City now has two documents, the Urban Design Guidelines and the Image Route Guidelines, that guide the design of private and public lands improving the quality of our City's built environment.

The Image Route Guidelines identify key streets in our city called "image routes" and describe ways that we can enhance these routes.
