Tips for tapping your card

  • Take your card out of your wallet. If it’s next to other smartcards, they may interfere with the signal.
  • Hold the card against the farebox until you hear a beep/see the valid fare message.
  • Don’t pull your card away too quickly. You will hear a beep and see the valid fare message if your payment is valid.
  • Wait for the previous transaction to clear when boarding after another passenger.

Paying with cash

Insert coins into the coin tray until $3.25 is reached or insert a bill into the bill acceptor, you will hear a beep and see the valid fare message on the screen. As you deposit money into the farebox the screen will display the current accepted amount. Note: Cash fare must be exact and in Canadian currency. Operators cannot make change if you insert more fare than is required.

Transfers

A 90-minute transfer is automatically activated on your Lift Pass card when paying with a monthly pass, multi-ride pass, or day pass. No additional fare will be deducted from your card if you tap again within that 90-minute period.

If you pay cash, you will need to request a paper transfer from the Operator. Paper transfers state the expiry date and time.

Using a paper transfer

When paying with cash or a paper ticket you can request a transfer from the Operator. Transfers are printed at the top of the farebox. Transfers are valid for 90 minutes and will have the date, expiry time and a scannable barcode printed on it.

To board using a transfer, hold the barcode towards the QR/Barcode scanner on the farebox until you hear a beep and see the valid fare message on the farebox.
