June 20, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay is delighted to announce the upcoming Canada Day on the Waterfront presented by Ontario Power Generation.  The festivities are scheduled for Saturday, July 1, at Marina Park from 5 - 11 pm.

"With past attendance estimated at over 20,000, Canada Day remains Thunder Bay's largest annual single-day event," said Ash Young, Cultural Development & Events Supervisor. "We can't wait to kick-off the festivities beginning at 5 pm with entertainment and activities for people of all ages. There will be a variety of programming throughout the waterfront offered until 11 pm when the night finishes with a spectacular fireworks show."

The Main Stage and the Waterfront Plaza Stage will host a variety of performers in a line-up that includes top-notch local artists who are guaranteed to entertain all ages. Performing acts includes 2017 Juno Nominee Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, singer/songwriter Nick Sherman and Thunder Bay favourites Rock Steady.

Throughout Marina Park, you will find performances and demonstrations by community groups and activities such as a gymnastics try-it zone, Eclectic Skateboard Shop's 4th Birthday Bash, and Mackinley's Delusions. Other activities for the whole family include a photography workshop at the Baggage Building Arts Centre, face painting, inflatable play structures and games. Attendees can also cool off at the Splash Pad.

An exciting addition to the event this year is Innovation 150's travelling Power of Ideas Exhibition. The Power of Ideas Exhibition includes a science exhibition led by Perimeter Institute and maker space workshops, led by Actua. Science North will also be set-up with their "Out of This World" display which allows everyone to experience space and what it takes to be an astronaut.

Food vendors will be onsite and bight Restaurant will be open from 11:30 am to midnight.

The Canada Day celebrations at the waterfront are free for all to attend. Free parking is available at the Court Street Parkade (18 Court St. N.) and free shuttle buses will be running from the Intercity Mall and the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre (400 River St.) from 4:30 pm to 12:30 am. There is no general public parking in the park on July 1, and no personal fireworks or alcohol permitted on the grounds.

Canada Day on the Waterfront is funded in part by the Government of Canada.
