December 11, 2017 - Thanks to the generosity of Thunder Bay citizens, the Annual Santa Bus campaign has had yet another successful year, bringing in more than 8,000 pounds of non-perishable food items and almost $2,800 in cash donations for the Thunder Bay Food Bank. 
 
The 23rd Annual Santa Bus campaign was organized by the Transit Services Division and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 966.

Throughout the 2017 campaign, all Transit buses accepted donations of non-perishable food items. In addition, residents made donations at the Santa Bus stationed at No Frill Edward Street and Metro Arthur Street. The donations were delivered to the Thunder Bay Food Bank on the morning of Monday, December 11. 

"Once again Transit Services, the residents of Thunder Bay and all of the volunteers who came out to help have given the Thunder Bay Food Bank a wonderful Christmas present," said Reino Pitkanen, Chair of the Thunder Bay Food Bank. "The Santa Bus brought much needed food and funds to help our goal of providing food to the over 1400 of the neediest in our city who use the Food Bank each month. Our most heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this possible."

The Thunder Bay Food Bank supplies emergency help to people in need, and when possible, helps other organizations with food supply. The need is always greater in the winter and especially over the holidays. 

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966 and Transit Services have served the community of Thunder Bay with safe, reliable, economical and eco-friendly transit service for 125 years.
