March 20, 2025 – Great news for homeowners, developers, and builders— the City of Thunder Bay is now accepting applications for housing grants to boost the city’s housing supply. Grants will support three key areas:

  • Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) – Help for homeowners adding secondary units to existing properties.
  • Multi-Unit Residential (MUR) Projects – Incentives for developers building multi-unit housing.
  • Construction Assistance Grants (CAG) – Support for eligible building costs in core areas.

"The Housing Accelerator Fund is a game-changer for Thunder Bay," said Mayor Ken Boshcoff, Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Building More Homes. "These grants will directly support new housing options, making it easier for residents and developers to build. More homes mean a stronger, more vibrant community, and I encourage everyone to apply.”

With limited funding available, applicants are encouraged to ensure their applications are complete and include all the required information before they submit.

“We know that building more housing is essential, and this program is here to help,” said Summer Stevenson, Project Manager – Housing Accelerator Fund. “The application process is simple and there are resources available on our website to guide you through every step.”
