As part of the celebration of National AccessAbility Week, the City of Thunder Bay’s Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) will host its annual open house from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in McGillivray Square, City Hall. A Flag Raising ceremony will kick off the event. AAC members and stakeholder groups will be present to provide information about the services they offer. Food trucks will be also be on hand at this festive event.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Accessibility Advisory Committee has been unable to meet in person with the public, as they were able to do in the past,” said Scott Garner, Municipal Accessibility Specialist. “The AAC is excited to be able to host a public event to showcase accessibility and barrier removal in Thunder Bay, to receive feedback from the public, and to recognize National AccessAbility Week.”

National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), held this year from May 29 to June 4, is a time to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and promote efforts to increase accessibility and inclusion in Canada.

The AAC guides the City in meeting and exceeding provincial accessibility legislation, and in removing barriers for people with disabilities when they are brought forward.
