JANUARY, 2025
WHEREAS, over half a million Canadians are living with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, with 25,000 new cases diagnosed every year; and
WHEREAS, each January, the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay asks Thunder Bay residents to stand together to decrease stigma related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. By learning the warning signs, receiving a proper diagnosis, to ask support, and to be able to live a healthy active lifestyle while living with dementia; and
WHEREAS, The City of Thunder Bay supports an inclusive space for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and their care partners and families. Through education, fundraising and support, the health and well-being of our communities are improved.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Ken Boshcoff, on behalf of Thunder Bay City Council, do hereby proclaim January as “Alzheimer’s Awareness Month” in the City of Thunder Bay.
