April 28, 2016 - An Ambrose Street property owner was found guilty in Provincial Court Wednesday on two charges for failing to comply with an Inspection Order written by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. In addition, the owner was found guilty of 14 additional fire code violations. These resulted in fines totaling $12,800 plus court costs.
The charges stem from an annual fire code inspection by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue. Numerous fire code violations were observed and were addressed on two Inspection Orders. The compliance date on each Order expired without compliance from the building owner.
"Failing to comply with an inspection order can result in a fine of up to $20,000 for every day you are not compliant," said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio. "Building owners are responsible for their buildings under the Ontario Fire Code and they must ensure they meet the regulations laid out in it."
