The City is excited to announce a public art opportunity for artists and artist-led teams.
Artists are invited to submit proposals for artwork to be displayed on the exterior of a Thunder Bay Transit bus, beginning this fall. The project provides an opportunity to feature local artists’ talent and creativity by creating a mobile gallery on public transportation. The theme, “Women’s History in Thunder Bay,” will inspire a visual art showcase of women who have made an impact on Thunder Bay, or women from Thunder Bay who have been influential nationally or internationally and are featured within Thunder Bay Archives’ Women’s History Month web exhibit.
“Art buses have proven to be a wonderful way to add vibrancy and creativity to the streets of Thunder Bay,” said Laurie Abthorpe, Cultural Development and Public Art Coordinator. “In this instance, art is being used as a means to tell the stories and celebrate the incredible contributions of women in our community.”
This project is supported by the City of Thunder Bay Public Art Committee, Thunder Bay Transit, and the City of Thunder Bay Archives. A portion of funding is provided by the Clean, Green, and Beautiful Committee Emerging Projects Fund.
