Archives Awareness Week kicks off next week to teach the public about archival work, and how it impacts their community.
The City Archives and cultural heritage organizations help preserve our community’s history, aim to inspire the public to learn more about the past, and learn why our community has formed into its present day shape.
The Harry Kirk City Archives will host an Open House with behind-the-scenes public tours at 235 Vickers Street North from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8.
“We invite people to come and explore their archives anytime,” said Christina Wakefield, City Archivist, “but these two days offer a unique opportunity to get into our vaults.”
“Our building is full of history, and if you want to learn more about our City, the Archives should be your first stop for accurate information.”
The City will expand the archives building starting this summer. Visitors to the archives building will be able to view the renderings and floor plans for the new addition, before construction starts in a few months.
Archives Awareness is celebrated across Ontario from April 7th to 30th. Follow the hashtag #ArchivesFunFacts to learn more about archival work across the province.
