June 7, 2016 - The Recreation & Culture Division announced details of the upcoming Canada Day festivities, which are scheduled for Friday, July 1, at Marina Park.
With past attendance estimated at over 20,000, Canada Day remains Thunder Bay's largest annual single-day event. The festivities begin at 5:30 pm with entertainment and activities for people of all ages.
"Come out for Thunder Bay's biggest celebration of the year," said Ash Young, Events Supervisor. "There will be fantastic music, great activities and delicious food. Dress in red and white and show your Canadian colours!"
There will be a variety of programming throughout Prince Arthur's Landing until 11 pm when the night finishes with a spectacular fireworks show. The Main Stage and the Waterfront Plaza Stage will host a variety of performers in a line-up that includes top-notch local artists who are guaranteed to entertain all ages. The City of Thunder Bay is also pleased to announce that Poor Angus will headline the Main Stage for Canada Day - don't miss it!
Throughout Marina Park, you will find performances and demonstrations by community groups and activities such as paddle boating, canoeing, kayaking, and dragon boating to try. Other activities for the whole family include art workshops at the Baggage Building Arts Centre, face painting, inflatable play structures and games. Don't forget your bathing suit so you can cool off and play at the Splash Pad, and be sure to stop by the Open Air Photo Booth to get your very own Canada Day souvenir.
Food vendors will be on-site. bight Restaurant will be open from 11:30 am to midnight and Breakwater Taphouse will be open from 4 pm to midnight.
Admission to the Canada Day celebrations at Prince Arthur's Landing is free. Free parking is available at the Court Street Parkade (18 N. Court St) and free shuttle buses will be running from the Intercity Mall and the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre (400 River Street) from 4:30 pm to 12:30 am. There is no general public parking in the park on July 1, and no personal fireworks or alcohol permitted on the grounds.
