Employees from the City of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS and the Thunder Bay Public Library came together today at the West Thunder Community Centre to launch their 2019 United Way Municipal Campaign.
“This fundraising event brings staff together to build energy and excitement for this year’s campaign,” said Joyce Ferrari, Municipal Campaign Co-Chair. “Staff have the opportunity to network, purchase lunch, and find out how they can get involved and contribute. It’s great to see everyone out showing their support.”
This year the United Way Thunder Bay is focusing on the struggles of individuals and family living in poverty in our community and addressing the root causes of poverty. They are looking at issues such as homelessness, mental health, food security, and equal opportunity to education. These issues are #unignorable.
“There are many ways to get involved and help make a difference in our city,” said Kelly Robertson, Municipal Campaign Co-Chair. “We encourage all City staff to take part in our Municipal Campaign but we also invite everyone in the community to support the United Way – volunteer your time or contribute financially. We echo the United Way’s goal of working together to move people from poverty to possibility, help kids be all that they can be, and build healthy and strong communities.”
Municipal employees contribute to the United Way Employee Campaign through payroll deductions, dress down days, and various draws and special events throughout the year. The Campaign has raised $2,946,849 for the United Way since its inception in 1996.
