S+P Global Ratings has reaffirmed the City of Thunder Bay’s credit rating of AA, with a stable outlook. Thunder Bay's positive budgetary performance, low municipal debt burden, and exceptional liquidity position led S&P Global to reaffirm the rating for a third consecutive year.

The stable outlook reflects S&P Global’s expectation that over the next two years Thunder Bay will continue to maintain strong budgetary results, which will help the City maintain a robust liquidity position and a decreasing debt burden.

“We are pleased the City has once again received this positive AA credit rating by S&P Global,” said Linda Evans, General Manager – Corporate Services & Long Term Care and City Treasurer. “This rating reflects the City’s prudent financial management practices and multi-year positive budgetary performances. This rating will allow the Corporation to secure the best available interest rates for future debt financing requirements.”
