A pre-hearing was held today concerning the City of Thunder Bay's permit to take water for Boulevard Dam. The permit to take water allows the City to store water from Current River to create Boulevard Lake. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change issued the City a new permit on April 30, 2018, and the City has concerns with some of the new terms. The City is going through a legal process to try to have the permit revised.
The pre-hearing is the first step in the process to present information to an Environmental Review Tribunal consisting of lawyers specializing in environmental law. The pre-hearing was open to the public and is an introductory meeting. A public hearing to present information to the Tribunal is scheduled for Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, 2018.
