December 18, 2015 - After 15 years as the City Treasurer and General Manager with the City of Thunder Bay, Carol Pollard announced today she is retiring at the end of February 2016.

Ms. Pollard began her nearly 38-year-career in municipal government financial administration as Chief Accountant for the Town of Fort Frances in June 1978. She became Town Treasurer/CFO in 1981 and remained in that position until she joined the City of Thunder Bay in September 2000 as General Manager - Finance and City Treasurer/CFO. Her role with the City, and the scope of her responsibility expanded over the years. Ms. Pollard ends her career with the City of Thunder Bay as General Manager - Corporate Services & Long-term Care and City Treasurer/CFO.

"On behalf of City Council and all the citizens of Thunder Bay, we extend our sincere thanks to Carol for her many years of professional service," said Mayor Keith Hobbs. "City Council in particular has benefitted greatly as a result of her expertise, especially when it comes to budgeting and investment and long-term financial planning. As well, her work has been tremendous and her talents will be sorely missed."

"Her leadership as the City Treasurer and CFO as well as on the Executive Management Team has been extraordinary and has greatly contributed to the City's ability to invest in our infrastructure and plan for the future of this community. Carol is committed to our community through her leadership and countless hours towards charitable efforts with groups like the United Way. She will certainly be missed and the City of Thunder Bay wishes her all the best in her future endeavors."

A transition plan to fill Ms. Pollard's position is being developed while steps are taken to select a new City Treasurer/CFO and General Manager of Corporate Services & Long-Term Care. Continuity in service is ensured as the City has a very strong financial team.

"I am proud to have served City Council and work closely with a tremendous City team including my Departmental Management Team and the Executive Management Team," said Carol Pollard.  "I am very pleased that I have had the opportunity to work with so many talented staff over the years, and am proud of the many accomplishments we have achieved together. This position has been both an honor and privilege to hold. While I move on in life's journey to a new and exciting challenge, I will miss working for The City of Thunder Bay and my friends and colleagues here."
