The City of Thunder Bay’s adaptation of the Live on the Waterfront Performance Series to a virtual format has received an Achievement Award from Festival Events Ontario (FEO).

Achievement Award recipients were recognized for their ability to adapt, pivot and evolve their events in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

“Community safety was the number one priority,” said Louisa Costanzo, Cultural Development and Events Supervisor. “Being able to stay connected through music, even if it is virtual when we can't all be together, is important.”

She added that the Culture and Events team was able to provide the community with a safe alternative to showcase award-winning and local talent virtually due to the COVID‐19 restriction

Viewers from all over the world connected weekly to the virtual event series that included 23 performances. The eight-part series focused on local talent, from production services to a wide variety of local performers.

Award submissions were judged by an independent panel of judges. Festivals and events of all kinds, from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions – from community festivals to internationally recognized events that held virtual experiences due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Awards were handed out throughout the month of February, during FEO’s 2021 Virtual Summit “Adapt - Pivot – Evolve”.
