October 18, 2016 - EarthCare Thunder Bay will present Strong Community tonight, a free public event in support of the United Way, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Italian Cultural Centre.

The event focuses on how a strong community can boost an urban area's prospects in the face of environmental, social and economic challenges.

Internationally acclaimed Charles Marohn from Strong Towns will deliver a keynote speech on the full costs of urban infrastructure, and on how taking a holistic view of urban growth and development, including making meaningful investments with a focus on creating spaces for people, can support a sustainable, prosperous, and resilient future for North American cities like Thunder Bay.

EarthCare Thunder Bay's Sustainability Coordinator Brad Doff anticipates a good turn-out to the event. "A lot of people in Thunder Bay care very much about the environment, climate change, and creating a better future. EarthCare events always attract much-needed support and attention to local efforts to make our City more sustainable and livable. In addition, we were very excited to hear Charles Marohn's keynote speech, and use this event to raise funds in support of the United Way."

The event features appetizers, live music, cash bar, a 50/50 draw, silent auction, and three grand prize draws.

It is proudly supported by: Emmons & Olivier Resources Inc., The Chronicle Journal, Confederation College, Green for Life Environment, Eryou Barristers and Venshore Mechanical.

All proceeds go to United Way Thunder Bay.
