Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will host its formal graduation ceremony tomorrow morning, Saturday, Oct. 6, to welcome seven recruits, as well as to pay tribute to those honoured with Long-Term Service Awards.
“I am pleased to introduce seven new firefighters to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue,” said Fire Chief John Hay. “In recognizing the hard work and dedication these individuals put forth, we thank them and their families for their commitment to the Fire Service and the citizens of Thunder Bay, now and into the future.”
The ceremony at the Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Training Centre, with participation by the Hon. Patty Hajdu, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North, and MPP Judith Monteith Farrell, will welcome the following new firefighters:
- Bradley Gilbert
- Justin Grochowski
- Dale Watson
- Eric Breukelman
- Aaron Blake
- Kari Rikkonen
- Robert Bailey
The new recruits, who completed a rigorous 14-week training program, bring the Fire Rescue team to full complement.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue provides the City and region with a highly trained emergency service capable of handling a range of emergencies and hazardous situations. Fire suppression, auto extrication, hazardous material spills, industrial accidents, tiered medical response/defibrillation, high/low angle rescue, and confined space rescue are provided from eight stations. Fire Rescue also delivers Emergency Planning for the community.
